6 Types of Ammo for Hunting

Top quality firearms and ammunition supplies come from several brands, including Remington or Ruger. At Bruno Shooters Supply, we offer a variety of rifles, pistols, and shotguns. We also provide ammunition with different types of large rifle primers. Here are six types of ammunition that can be used for hunting:

1. Large Rifle Primers

Large rifle primers offer components that ignite propellant powder. This powder helps propel the bullet out of the firearm. Using consistent ignition supports accurate shooting. A good primer also reduces the chances of a misfire. At Bruno Shooters Supply, we offer various rifle primers for ammo, including CCI primer shotshells.

2. Centerfire Cartridges

Centerfire cartridges offer versatility and reliability. This type of ammunition has a a primer at the center of the casing’s base, making it ideal for high-powered rifles. This includes ammunition such as Remington 55 grain or Creedmoor 127 grain cartridges. Some centerfire cartridges offer customization for hunters who reload their own ammunition.

3. Rimfire Cartridges

These cartridges are smaller and lighter than some other shells, such as the centerfire options. The rimfire cartridge may be more suitable for hunting small game, such as rabbits or squirrels. These cartridges have a primer located in the rim of the casing rather than the center. Due to the ignition placement, it offers lower power. We offer various options for rimfire ammunition, such as the Copper Plated Hollow Points or an LR 40 Grain Segmented Hollow Point.

4. Magnum Cartridges

Magnum cartridges have larger case sizes to hold more propellant. These offer more power than a standard cartridge of the same caliber, and they are more effective at close range. This type of ammunition is ideal for larger games, such as elk or moose. Some options include CCI primers for large rifle magnums.

5. Shotgun Shells

Shotguns are a versatile hunting option, and their ammunition can be used for birdshot, buckshot, or slugs. For hunting small game, a birdshot is an ideal choice. Buckshot and slugs are more suited for larger game. Depending on the type of gauge, shotgun shells come in various sizes, such as 10 or 12 gauge.

6. Hollow Point Bullets

Hollow point bullets expand when they hit a soft target, similar to an umbrella. The primer is located at the base of the cartridge, and the hollow cavity at the tip affects how the bullet impacts a target. They’re an ideal option to use when hunting deer or hogs. This type of ammunition does better with shorter distances with controlled accuracy. We offer 9mm 124 grain or 40 cal with 180 grain hollow points.
