Expander Die for Straight Wall Cases – The Redding Expander Die for straight wall cartridge cases is unique in the design of the expander plug itself. Where may such dies simply bell the case mouth, a close examination of the profile of the Redding expander shows the many facets of its design. First is a tapered lead to easily enter the mouth of the case, followed by a parallel section, which expands and trues the internal portion of the case, which will hold the bullet. Next is a slightly larger shoulder to create a “seat” for the bullet to rest in as it is seated and finally there is a taper for flaring the case mouth to ease bullet insertion. All of this extra machining on the Redding Seat Die makes bullet seating very simple and precise with a case has been fully prepared and expanded.
